1. Siding is clearly damaged.

The reasons for damaged siding are many: weather wear and tear, original materials were cheap or very old, or the workmanship was poor. When siding is reaching the end of its useful life, the most common sign is exposed edges. The paint may chip or flake, the siding material itself starts to flake off, discolored spots appear, or whole pieces may be missing.

2. Siding is warped or bowed.

When you look at the side of your home, it should have a nice flat surface with minimal siding seams visible. If you don’t see a flat surface, it means your house has siding issues. Over time, siding boards will bow and panels will swell as a result of too much exposure to moisture.

3. Caulk or paint is peeling.

When caulk or paint peels or flakes, it means neither is doing their job anymore, which is to protect the siding and walls of your home from moisture. It’s more than a cosmetic issue; it needs to be taken care of quickly.

If any of these issues are left alone, your siding could sustain major damage. Your whole home could be affected, especially if moisture gets into places it shouldn’t. If you see problems with your siding, give us a call. We’d be happy to assess the problem and give you an estimate of the work involved, as well as answer any questions you may have.
