Window Replacement

5 Signs Your Home Windows Are No Longer Energy Efficient

If you’re like most people, you probably don’t think about your home windows very often. But if you’re noticing higher energy bills than normal, it might be time to start paying more attention to them. So, here are helpful warning signs that your home windows are no longer energy efficient. If you notice any of these, it’s time to call Centennial Construction & Remodeling Services, Inc. for window replacements!

1. You Feel Drafts Coming Through

One of the most obvious signs that your home windows are no longer energy efficient is when you feel drafts coming through. Drafts, also known as air leakage, occur when there are gaps around a window or door in which air can travel and escape from your home. If you feel drafts coming through your windows, it means that warm air is escaping during the winter and getting in during the summer.

2. Windows Are Difficult to Operate

Windows that are difficult to operate can be a sign that your home windows are no longer energy efficient. In many cases, this is due to the window frames warping or expanding over time. This reduces the effectiveness of the seal around the window and can cause it to become harder to open and close. If you find yourself struggling with your windows, it’s definitely time for some new ones.

3. You Notice Condensation between the Panes

One of the most concerning signs that your home windows are no longer energy efficient is when you notice condensation between the panes. This is generally caused by a broken seal or due to the window being exposed to moisture and humidity over time. When this happens, it means warm air from inside your home is getting trapped between the two panes, resulting in water collection. Over time, this water can seep into other areas around the window, causing further damage.

4. The Frames Are Soft or Chipped

If you notice that your window frames are soft or chipped, this is a sure sign that your home windows are no longer energy efficient. Soft or chipped frames can occur when the material used to construct them has weakened over time due to exposure to the elements and extreme temperatures. This reduces the effectiveness of the seal of the window and allows moisture inside.

5. No Longer Soundproof

One of the most important aspects of energy-efficient windows is their soundproofing qualities. Poorly insulated windows can allow sound to travel in and out of your home, making it harder to enjoy peace and quiet. If you find that your home is no longer soundproof, it might be time for some new windows.
