3 Signs of Hail Damage

Summer weather can bring plenty of heat and sunshine, but it can also bring severe thunderstorms and hail. Indiana ranks ninth in the country when it comes to homeowners making hail damage claims, and most of those are for the roof. The roof of your home is exposed to the elements 24/7, and nothing is protecting it from falling chunks of ice. If you notice these signs of hail damage, it’s time to call Centennial Construction & Remodeling Services, Inc. for repairs.

1. Gutter Dents

After a hail storm, don’t just assume your roof is fine if you don’t see any obvious damage. Even the smallest chunks of ice can create dents and damage the shingles. One of the easiest ways to know you probably have hail damage on the roof is to look at the gutters. Gutters with hail damage have obvious dings and dents. So, if your gutters are beaten up, then it’s likely your roof is, too.

2. Dark Spots

If you take a glance at your roof from the ground and see dark spots, that’s a prime indicator that you have hail damage. Hail falls at such a high speed that it can dent or chip away the granules of your shingles. Think of these dark spots as bruises on your roof: they’re showing you exactly where the impact happened. Replacing these shingles is a top priority, and critical to prevent moisture from seeping through to your attic.

3. Shattered Shingles

Not all hail balls are the same size, and the smaller ones may not do much harm. But, if you see some quarter-size pieces or larger in your lawn, then you’re going to want to inspect your roof for shattered shingles. Shattered shingles are probably the most obvious sign of hail damage, and replacing them is crucial. But, again, hiring professional roofers to repair this damage is your best option.
